President's Message

It is with pleasure that I invite you to attend the 41st annual public radio Music Personnel Conference (MPC 41) in one of America’s most popular and hospitable conference cities, San Diego, February 5-8, 2003. Just think, while the majority of the country is dealing with freezing temperatures, snow, sleet, and ice, you can enjoy business and pleasure in a sunny temperate climate where the National Weather Service has never registered a freezing temperature during the month of February. Sound good? Well there is more!

Blessed with a sparkling harbor locale and a rich cultural heritage, San Diego offers a wide variety of things to see and do. Choose from any number of attractions and tour options to make your visit memorable, ranging from 70 miles of open beaches, 98 golf courses, a shopping adventure to Tijuana, and some 90 museums, historic sites and monuments. Did you know that Travelocity.com named San Diego the “Newest Cultural Mecca in the United States”?

I could go on and on about San Diego and how excited we are to be bringing the MPC to this city for the first time, but it would delay my explaining the real reason for going there-to hold AMPPR’s annual conference for music programmers, announcers, managers, and valued colleagues who provide programming, music recordings, and services to the public radio stations.

As the only public radio music conference, you’ll find ways to reverse trends, attract listeners and reward employees at the Music Personnel Conference. VISIT exhibitors in the Marketplace...LEARN from sessions by leaders in the industry...NETWORK with colleagues... ENJOY musical performances, presentations, and food and beverage provided by our sponsors...HEAR why what we do is vital to our communities...REVITALIZE your energy and commitment...and grab the opportunity to TOUR San Diego.

This four-day conference will focus on providing real-life solutions for common challenges that public radio music stations and personnel face. Attendees will have their choice of many sessions in the subject areas that include:

    •   Classical Core Values
    •   Community Outreach
    •   Creating Powerful Radio
    •   Internet Usage in Public Radio
    •   Interview Techniques
    •   NEA’s New Initiative
    •   Programming Approaches
    •   Promotion Strategies
    •   RIAA Copyright Streaming Regulations
    •   Special Interest Group Meetings

The speaker’s dais will be filled with NEW FACES and NEW IDEAS, and we’re hoping to see many new faces among the familiar in the audience. So if you are looking for ways to get listeners to tune in and for employees to work more productively, make your way to this year’s MPC.

Come early, stay late. And you just might want to throw in a pair of shorts and swimsuit for good measure. Our hotel has a beautiful outdoor pool.

 See Ya There!
