| President’s
Corner
As
I start sketching ideas for this column, less than two weeks remain before
the start of MPC 37 in San Antonio. I’m packing boxes of materials to ship
to the conference, and my thoughts shift to all of the other people across
and out of the country who are making their own preparations. I envision
all of these busy “hives” of activity everywhere, and I feel a sense of
camaraderie knowing that we’re working together toward an important goal.
It’s a comforting thought.
Now
I am back in Columbus, one day after the close of the conference. As I
continue to reflect on the effort of so many to make this conference happen,
it overwhelms me, for it is a huge task. Consequently, I must thank each
of you for your level of support and commitment, great or small, to ensure
the success of this endeavor. Without you, AMPPR wouldn’t exist.
If
you were unable to attend the conference, we regret that you couldn’t be
with us. I think it safe to say that the conference was successful, for
we received many glowing compliments on the quality of sessions. Everyone
truly enjoyed being together, talking about music and radio, and rediscovering
or reaffirming their individual reasons for being in this business. As
always, it was wonderful to see “old” friends and to make many new ones.
Thanks for coming!
In
our efforts for continued success, we want to hear your thoughts—good or
bad—on the 1999 Music Personnel Conference and what you would like to have
offered at future conferences. Please feel free to contact me via mail
(snail or e-mail) so that I have documentation for reference. Your input
is vital to keeping AMPPR on track with your needs.
In
case you haven’t marked your calendars yet, the 2000 Music Personnel Conference
will be held February 16-20 at the DoubleTree
Hotel in New Orleans. The AMPPR Board has begun work on MPC 38, so
if you are a potential sponsor or presenter, now is the time to begin planning
your events so that we can work them into the agenda. Hope you’ll be able
to join us next year.
