MPC 37 Goes to Germany

Georg Hirsch, a freelance music correspondent for the German Public Broadcast network ARD who is based in Alexandria, Virginia, covered the Music Personnel Conference last February in San Antonio and reported on it for the spring issue of Music Notes. His reports and interviews were also well covered in Germany, as his report reveals:

“My stories about AMPPR and MPC 37 were broadcast on:

NDR Hamburg:  3 stories, 6-1/2 minutes each,   from different angles
WDR  Dortmund: 1 story, 7 minutes
DLR Berlin: 1 story, 6-1/2 minutes  (received   nationwide via cable!)
HR Frankfurt:  1 story, 9-1/2 minutes
  SWR Baden-Baden:  1 story, 8-1/2 minutes
Radio Bremen: 1 story, 6 minutes
  BR Munich:  20-minute feature
  Deutsche Welle:  20-minute feature

Two telephone interviews I did from San Antonio: one was for MDR Leipzig and one for BR Munich. In these cases, anchor people called me at my hotel room from Germany, asking questions about the conference and its meaning, with an emphasis on ‘classical radio on the internet,’ so their questions and my answers were heard on air.

Since each station covers one of the German states, in addition to parts of neighboring states, every household in Germany had a chance to hear about the conference, as long as they had tuned in to the program.”

Our thanks to Georg Hirsch for his coverage for Music Notes and for his reports in Germany.  He proved to be a terrific public relations person for AMPPR!
