MPC 38 Agenda and Registration Issue

President’s Corner

Almost three years ago I was cringing at the thought of having to write quarterly President’s Columns for Music Notes as part of my newly acquired duties. I couldn’t imagine finding enough things to say in twelve issues, and the thought of writing those were a bit overwhelming. Now all of a sudden I’m faced with writing my final column. My tenure as AMPPR’s President is drawing to a close, for a new President will be elected in February at the MPC. Where has the time gone?! It just doesn’t seem possible.
With the help and support of my colleagues on the Board of Directors, we’ve accomplished much during this time. This newsletter, Music Notes, has grown in scope and character, and dare I say more colorful? Our web site was launched, as was AMPPR’s ListServ discussion group. AMPPR’s scholarship competition has become an annual event, allowing deserving candidates to attend the MPC. The mentoring program was developed and implemented, and plans have begun for developing regional workshops for announcers. We exhibited at the PRPD for the first time this year to publicize and to promote AMPPR’s activities in our increased efforts to have a presence throughout the year.
Then there is the Music Personnel Conference, our pièce de resistance. Attendance has continued to increase with each passing year. The generosity from our growing list of sponsors has been most outstanding and appreciated. The warm, gracious, professional assistance that we received from our conference planners, Betty Weaver and Joanie Purvis, contributed significantly to our having well-run, beautifully organized events. Our host cities have been popular, wonderful, warm-weather destinations, enabling AMPPR to provide a comfortable setting for our attendees.
I will recall all of our accomplishments and shining moments during these years with pride, and I know that AMPPR’s future is bright.Yet, I confess that I will be a bit sad when I step aside, for so much of my time and energy has been devoted to AMPPR. Most definitely, it was time well spent, and I hope to stay involved in some capacity.
What does the immediate future hold for me? A trip to New Orleans for MPC 38 in February! As the saying goes, “be there or be square.” Please join me as we help to set the course of AMPPR’s future in the next century by electing new members to the Board of Directors. These individuals are instrumental to the success and growth of this Association, YOUR Association. So come, join the fun, and cast your vote for our future. My next project will be to reclaim the floor and top of my desk that have not seen the light of day since my election three years ago.
Thanks, everyone, for all of your hard work and dedication, and your support. I couldn’t have done it without you.
Wishing each of you much joy, peace, and happiness....

Beverley Ervine
President
